Street Art has become one of the most significant art movements in recent decades. Originating as a form of expression to address societal issues – and still reflecting the world’s happenings today – it has now gained international recognition as an art form.
Although the scene is primarily male, there are also many influential female street artists active. Yet, this is not yet reflected in the representation of artists. With the Women in Street Art exhibition, STRAAT and ABN AMRO are putting these female role models in the spotlight. In doing so, they hope to encourage aspiring artists to develop their own talent and contribute to equal opportunities for all. During Women in Street Art, the work of several female street artists will be highlighted, including the internationally renowned Lady Aiko and Dutch graffiti icon Mick La Rock.
Sponsorship in Arts & Culture
ABN AMRO’s renewed sponsorship policy within arts & culture puts even more emphasis on equal opportunities for all. The bank becomes the main partner of STRAAT to jointly bring more attention and visibility to female role models, thereby promoting gender equality in the scene. In this endeavor, the organizations collaborate with WOMEN Inc., the advocacy organization ABN AMRO has partnered with since 2021. Leveraging their knowledge and expertise in equal opportunities, WOMEN Inc. advises the bank and its cultural partners on achieving their goals.
Team HAGENS brought the exhibition to public attention and shared the stories of these artists with the Dutch media. This resulted in beautiful publications in Telegraaf, Numero Magazine, AT5, ModMod, FunX, Adformatie, and Het Parool.
‘Women in Street Art’ is on display at STRAAT until May 28, 2023, at NDSM-Plein 1 in Amsterdam. For more information, visit straatmuseum.com or instagram.com/straatmuseum
