Ten years ago, the Netherlands ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Yet taking part on an equal footing is still not a given for many Dutch people with a disability. The Netherlands Institute for Human Rights asked HAGENS to give that story the stage it deserves.
Research by the Institute among more than 1,800 Dutch people with a disability shows that 27% do not experience equal opportunities on the labour market and a third (33%) have to make a great effort to get suitable help or care. More than a third (35%) are worried about their financial future, and almost a quarter feel they don’t count.
With a PR strategy and a targeted press approach, we put the facts and the personal stories behind them on the agenda. That generated 104 publications, including Trouw, NOS, RTL Nieuws and Hart van Nederland, as well as regional and trade titles.
